Frequently asked questions

Parent / carer FAQs

Q. What is alternative provision and why has my child been referred?

A. Alternative Provision offers a tailored education for pupils who need a different environment or approach to thrive—this can include those with SEMH needs, medical conditions, anxiety, risk of exclusion, or who benefit from a more practical/vocational curriculum. Your child’s school (or the Local Authority) referred them so we can provide a safe, supportive setting with small groups and wraparound support to help them progress academically and emotionally, and—where appropriate—prepare for reintegration.

Q.  Will my child still study core subjects and gain qualifications?

A. Yes. Your child will study typical school subjects alongside personalised pathways such as AQA unit awards or functional skills. We set individual learning plans aligned to the national curriculum where appropriate and agree targets with you and the home school. We also support life skills and careers preparation.

Q. How is my child's progress monitored?

A. We regularly assess and monitor each pupil's academic, social, and emotional development. This includes formal assessments, ongoing observations, and regular communication with parents/carers and the home school. Progress reports are provided regularly, and review meetings are held to discuss achievements and set future goals.

Q: What is the staff‑to‑pupil ratio and who will work with my child?
A. Typical ratios are 1:3 with some 1:1 depending on activity and need. Your child will have a named key worker, and support staff experienced in SEMH, autism, ADHD, trauma‑informed practice, and de‑escalation. We also work with counsellors/therapists where commissioned

Q. How will I be updated about progress and attendance?
A. You’ll receive frequent check‑ins (call/message), transition progress reports, and immediate contact regarding significant issues or achievements. We share attendance daily with the home school and inform you if your child is absent

School / Local Authority FAQs

Q1. Registration, compliance, and governance—what’s your status?
A. We are an independent AP. We comply with safeguarding (KCSIE), safer recruitment, health & safety, and data protection requirements. All statutory policies are current and published/available. Our DSL and deputies are trained to the required level and refreshed regularly.

Q. What curriculum and qualifications can you deliver?
A. We offer AQA Unit Awards, Functional Skills, plus vocational strands (e.g., Construction, Hospitality, Sport, Creative Media), PSHE, and careers education. Programmes are personalised via ILPs linked to EHCP outcomes or graduated response (Assess‑Plan‑Do‑Review).

Q. How do you handle safeguarding and information‑sharing?
A. We operate a robust safeguarding protocol. We require a full referral pack (risk assessment, safeguarding chronology, attendance history, PSP/Pastoral notes, EHCP). We share concerns promptly with the home school DSL/LA and escalate per thresholds.

Q. What’s the commissioning and induction process?
A. Referral form → documentation check → joint risk assessment → start date. Induction includes baseline assessments, timetable agreement, communication plan, expectations and mobile phone rules, and contact permissions. We aim for start within 1–5 school days of a complete referral.

Q. Pricing and funding arrangements
A. We offer day rates or block/termly packages with clear inclusions (curriculum hours, key work, reporting)..
