Our Curriculum 

At MI's STFC Alternative Provision , we embed core learning such as maths, communication, literacy, and science within engaging, real-world topics that spark interest. For example, learners might develop communication skills through vocational tasks such as using IT to create letters, quotes, and invoices, or explore scientific principles through hands-on construction activities.

  • Support towards qualifications.
  • Unit awards to support National Curriculum learning.
  • Short level 1 vocational courses.
  • MI-ET academy Stepping Stones provision towards independence.

Our flexible approach allows us to adapt to individual needs, interests, and learning styles, while maintaining high expectations and a clear focus on preparation for future education, employment, and independent living.

                  AQA Unit awards

As part of our personalised approach, learners complete AQA-accredited Unit Awards, giving them recognition for their achievements in a flexible, accessible format. Those aged 11–14 will typically complete up to 10 awards, including at least one compulsory science unit. Additional awards will cover key areas such as maths and English, designed to build toward functional skills alongside personal development, IT (with links to Esports), and other relevant foundation subjects.

For learners aged 14–16, Unit Awards are offered as an optional pathway, supporting both engagement and progression.

 

            Vocational Opportunities

Our vocational courses are accredited by nationally recognised EPAO’s . If appropriate 14-16 learners can take at least one vocational/short courses. Learners aged 11-14 may take at least one course or unit award as a taster option.

Stepping Stones 

MI’s bespoke learning program focuses on developing personal growth and independence, empowering learners with essential life skills. Topics include budgeting communication, organization and timekeeping, building relationships,  independent travel, and work skills providing a well-rounded foundation for success both in and outside the classroom.

This is a alternative provision so things will not be the same as at school
